Why convert OPUS to AIFF?
AIFF is Apple's answer to WAV: the same uncompressed PCM audio in a container Macs have read since 1988. Logic Pro treats AIFF as a native format, and some legacy plugins and sample libraries expect it. So if you are dropping a voice note into a Logic session, editing dialogue in an older Mac app, or matching a studio delivery spec that names AIFF, converting the .opus first saves you a failed import. Logic and plenty of other pro audio tools still do not decode Opus at all.
Quality and file size
Opus to AIFF is lossy to lossless, which means the file gets much larger without gaining any fidelity. Decoding cannot rebuild frequencies the original compression threw away, so the AIFF is an exact record of how the recording sounds right now. Opus always decodes at 48 kHz, so budget roughly 5 to 6 MB per minute for a mono voice note and about double that for stereo. What the extra space buys you is a file Logic opens natively, edits without a decode step, and that reads on Macs going back decades.

What is the difference between AIFF and WAV here?
Nothing audible. Both hold the same uncompressed PCM audio in different containers. AIFF is the Mac-native flavor, so pick it when your tools are Apple ones like Logic Pro.
Does converting to AIFF make my voice note sound better?
No. The AIFF sounds exactly like the Opus source, because decoding cannot restore data that lossy compression removed. You convert for compatibility and editing, not for quality.
How private is this for personal recordings?
Your file never leaves your device. FFmpeg runs in WebAssembly inside your browser tab, so there is no server on the other end: we never see the recording, store it, or train on it. For a personal voice note, that is the whole point.
Why does Logic Pro not open my .opus file directly?
Pro audio software has been slow to adopt Opus, and Logic is among the holdouts. Converting to AIFF hands Logic a format it has supported natively for decades.
