Why convert MP3 to AIFF?
AIFF is Apple's uncompressed PCM format, so you reach for it when you are working inside the Mac audio world. It drops straight into Logic Pro and GarageBand sessions, suits older iTunes workflows, and gives you a raw PCM file to edit without a codec in the way. If a Mac app or plugin wants uncompressed audio and you would rather stay in Apple's format than use WAV, AIFF is the match. It carries the same audio as WAV, just in Apple's container with a different byte order (big-endian instead of little-endian).
Quality and file size
As with any lossy to lossless step, converting MP3 to AIFF does not undo the compression the MP3 already applied. It only rewraps the audio in a new container, so what you hear is the same as the source. AIFF is uncompressed, so the file will be large, in the same ballpark as WAV at roughly 10 MB per minute of CD-quality stereo. The point is editability and a native Apple PCM file, not a quality boost. If you want something smaller and still lossless for storage rather than editing, FLAC is the better pick.

Does converting to AIFF enhance my MP3?
No. AIFF is lossless, but it only holds the audio the MP3 already has. Nothing the MP3 encoder discarded can be brought back by the conversion.
What is the difference between AIFF and WAV?
They store the same uncompressed PCM audio at similar sizes, just in different containers with a different byte order. AIFF is Apple's format and feels more at home in macOS, Logic Pro, and GarageBand.
Is my file sent to a server?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your MP3 stays on your device, and we never see, store, or train on it.
Why is the AIFF file so large?
AIFF is uncompressed PCM, so it keeps every sample at full size, around 10 MB per minute at CD quality. If you want lossless audio in a smaller file, convert to FLAC instead.
