OGG Vorbis is the go-to when you need an open, royalty-free format, which is why it shows up so often in game engines like Unity and Godot and across open-source projects. Developers convert to it to keep audio assets license-clean and to lean on Vorbis, which holds up well against MP3 at the same bitrate. If you are packing sound effects or music into a game build or an app that expects Ogg, this is the format to hand it. Just know that consumer hardware and Apple devices support it less reliably than MP3 or M4A.
Quality and file size
This is a lossy to lossy conversion, so the MP3 is decoded and re-encoded as Vorbis, which adds a small generation loss on top of the loss already baked into the MP3. Pick a higher quality setting, in the 256 to 320 kbps range, so that extra loss stays hard to hear. Vorbis is competitive with or better than MP3 at a given bitrate, but that does not mean the conversion improves your audio: it cannot add back what the MP3 already dropped. Avoid bouncing the same clip through several lossy formats, since each round-trip degrades it a little more.
