Why convert WAV to AIFF?

AIFF is essentially Apple's version of WAV: uncompressed PCM audio, bit-for-bit perfect, just wrapped in a different container with big-endian byte order. It is native to macOS, Logic Pro, and older iTunes workflows, so converting to AIFF is handy when a Mac-centric tool or session prefers its own format over WAV. Some hardware samplers and legacy Apple pipelines also expect AIFF specifically. Use this when you are handing audio to a Logic session or macOS app that plays nicer with AIFF, and you want to keep the audio fully intact.

Quality and file size

Both WAV and AIFF are lossless and uncompressed, so this conversion changes the container, not the audio: the samples come out identical. Because nothing is compressed, the AIFF is roughly the same size as the WAV, not smaller, so expect around 10 MB per minute at CD quality. There is no fidelity gain and no loss here. You are just repackaging the same PCM for a different toolchain. AIFF also carries metadata, so tags like title and artist can travel with the file where a plain WAV would leave them behind.
