Why convert FLAC to AIFF?
AIFF is Apple's answer to WAV: uncompressed PCM, but with proper support for tags and cover art. You convert FLAC to AIFF when you work on a Mac and want files that drop cleanly into Logic Pro, older iTunes libraries, or classic macOS audio workflows. Some Apple tools and hardware handle AIFF more comfortably than FLAC, and AIFF keeps your track titles and artwork where a plain WAV would lose them. It is the natural interchange format when your session lives inside the Apple world.
Quality and file size
FLAC is lossless, so decoding it to AIFF preserves every sample bit for bit with no change to the sound. Nothing is added and nothing is lost. What changes is size: AIFF is uncompressed, so files run large, roughly 10 MB per minute at CD quality and often close to double your FLAC. AIFF carries the same PCM audio as WAV, just in Apple's container with big-endian byte order, and unlike a plain WAV it holds onto your metadata.
