Why convert AAC to FLAC?
Converting to FLAC is useful when you need to edit audio that arrived as AAC without adding another lossy generation each time you export, or when a tool or archive workflow requires a lossless format. FLAC is also smaller than WAV while staying lossless. Convert when a DAW, sampler or archive system wants lossless input, or when you plan to work on the file repeatedly.
Quality and file size
FLAC is lossless, but it cannot recreate detail the original AAC encode threw away. The FLAC will sound exactly like the AAC it came from. What you gain is a stable working copy that will not degrade further as you edit and re-export. The file will be noticeably larger than the AAC, though usually around half the size of an equivalent WAV. Do not use this to make a lossy file look like a true lossless master.

Will converting AAC to FLAC make it lossless quality?
No. FLAC preserves exactly what it is given, and the AAC has already lost some detail. The FLAC sounds identical to the AAC. It simply prevents any additional loss from future edits and exports.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device, and we never see it, store it, or train on it.
Why is the FLAC bigger than the AAC?
FLAC compresses audio without discarding anything, while AAC removes data to get small. Storing decoded AAC audio losslessly always takes more space, typically several times the AAC's size.
FLAC or WAV for editing?
Both are lossless and both work well. FLAC is smaller and supports tags, while WAV is accepted by slightly more older software. Pick whichever your DAW prefers.
