Why convert AAC to M4A?
A raw .aac file is just an audio stream with no container, so many players, phones and music libraries handle it poorly or refuse to import it. Putting the same audio into an M4A container makes it behave like a normal track that apps recognise and can tag. Convert when an AAC file will not import into Apple Music, will not play on a device, or when you want to add proper track names and artwork later.
Quality and file size
AAC and M4A use the same codec, so this converter first tries a lossless remux: it copies the existing AAC audio into the M4A container without decoding or re-encoding, so the sound is bit-for-bit identical and the job finishes almost instantly. If the stream cannot be copied directly, it falls back to a fresh AAC encode at the quality you choose. Either way, the result is a standard M4A that can hold tags and cover art.

Does converting AAC to M4A lose quality?
Normally no. The AAC audio is copied straight into the M4A container, so nothing is re-encoded and the sound is identical. A re-encode only happens in the rare case the stream cannot be copied.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device, and we never see it, store it, or train on it.
Why won't Apple Music import my .aac file?
Raw AAC lacks the MP4 container that music libraries expect. Wrapping it in M4A turns it into a normal track that Apple Music and most players import without trouble.
Can I add album art after converting?
Yes. Unlike raw .aac, an M4A can store cover art and full tags, so you can add them in any tag editor or music app once the conversion is done.
